1. Rumba

Mambo originated from tribal dancing in Africa. It is based on the Son rhythm and its music was created by cellist Oresta Lopez in the 1930s.

This is a style characterized by its basic dance step, the triple step. Originating from Cuban style Mambo, Cha Cha became such a hit in the United States during the 1950s.

4. Waltz

Modern waltz has its roots from Austrian Waltzen which became popular in Germany and Austria in the beginning of the 1900s. It comes in several variations including Boston Waltz and Viennese Waltz. It is characterized by slow beat, dips, and steps.

5. Foxtrot

Invented by Harry Fox in 1914, this dance is characterized by a smooth action of the cack leg. It comes in several variations today, each having its own style and speed.
